All countries in our region share a post-Communist legacy that is still visible in the local child protection systems. There is an urgent demand for structural reforms that address the needs and hopes of thousands of vulnerable children.
Children's rights are formally granted by international documents, most prominently by the UNCRC. But 25 years after that fundamental UN document was introduced, many countries still do not fully comply.
ChildPact's Child Protection Index will point out how each country performs across more than 500 indicators, adapted from the official UNCRC implementation checklist, with the understanding that child protection is a system of different parts, levels, actors and responsibilities within familes, civil society and government.
If those rights exist only on paper
the Child Protection Index will be a fundamental instrument
to make them real.
