On 3-4 April 2015, the Georgian Coalition for Child and Youth Welfare organized a media seminar for Georgian journalists of broadcasting, internet-media and press companies. The seminar is part of the European Commission funded project –“A Stronger Coalition for Child and Youth Welfare”.
Participants to the meeting discussed the challenges existing in reporting child and youth related issues in Georgia. The seminar was facilitated by the Minister of Labor Health and Social Affairs of Georgia – David Sergeenko and representatives of Social Service Agency. Twenty one journalists of different broadcasting, internet-media and press companies were present, along with representatives of the Georgian Coalition, UNISEF and the Chertier of Journalistic Ethics.
The agenda included discussions around achievements and challenges in child protection reform in Georgia, needed changes and improvements in the current Georgian legislation, the state policy and current challenges in the process of de-institutionalization, ethical standards of media-reporting of child related issues and the psychological impact of media on children and youths.
